Diclofenac sodium is an Analgesic ,Antipyretic and Antiinflammatory drug or meicine, similar in efficacy to Naproxen. It inhibits Prostaglandin synthesis and is somewhat COX-2 selective. The antiplatelet action is not appreciable due to sparig of COX-1. It also does not block the cardioprotective effect of low dose aspirin.
Neutrophil chemotaxis and super oxide production at the inflammatory site are reduced. Diclofenac tablet is well absorbed orally, 99% protein bound.
Diclofenac sodium tablet is metabolized in Liver and Excreted in Urine and Bile both.
The plasma half life of diclofenac sodium tablet is ~2 hours. However, it has good tissue penetrability and concentration in synovial fluid is maintained for 3 times longer period than in plasma, exerting extended therapeutic action in joints.
